Why Do We Hunt?

hunting

I’ve read recently a relatively old post on Hunting Sense about the importance of us hunters to stick by each other instead of ridiculing other hunters for using different weapons and techniques.

It made me thinking about all the attacks that the hunters community have to face on a regular basis from outside and the need of hunters to maintain a level of support for other hunters whatever their weapon of choice may be.

The other thing was of course rethinking about the inherent competitive nature of hunting.

We test ourselves against the animals, we test ourselves against other hunters and we test ourselves against our own limitations.

There is a lot to be gained from improving skills and being able to hunt with more basic weapons and without so much help from modern technology but it all returns to the question of why do we hunt.

Is it a way to do something that we love? I know that for me it is but female hunters are often less competitive.

Is it a way to prove that we are in control? That we are better than others? Are we trying to fight our way up some social scale?

I can’t really tell I suppose it is different for everyone.

I guess that no matter what our reasons for being hunters are we better not fight each other to the degree of giving other people weapons to limit hunting even more.
