People complained about notifications to topics which were no longer relevant for them. Besides, most replies were spammers trying to get a link.
I don't want to delete them though, as many still hold valuable information.

I can understand as I have a board myself, but with the limited traffic the board is experiencing, it needs a boost in the arm with new posters. A lot of stuff I read, I'd like to comment on but can't.

I never sign up to be notified when replies are made, if you are active on the board, there is no need for them.

Might look into turning that option off....just a thought.

I like the board though and will continue to visit and add input where I can.

Thanks for the tip
Currently notifications can be set to off, both per topic and entirely by the user.

Say, instead of replying to the older topics, would you like to blog here?
