Ok, we have our archery deer and elk tags for area 66A in the southeast corner of Idaho (this is also called the Diamond Creek area). Now, does anyone have any advice on how to find a good place to hunt elk in this area? We'll be hunting the last two weeks of september and plan to pack in as far as it takes to get to the elk. We'd also like to get as far away from other hunters as possible.

I've posted other elk hunting questions on this forum before and gotten back some wonderful advice from many of the seasoned elk hunters that read this. I'm hoping to get the same great results this time

Thanks everyone,

I'm sorry, but I just have to chuckle about this post.. You're dreaming if you think other hunters are going to give you pointers on where exactly to go- especially where there won't be many other hunters?? If you want to know where the game is, get out there and scout it yourself.

You must mean area 76A. The mountain ridges in the Diamond Creek area are not accessable by road. You must walk up to the top and it is a long walk (and drag). You might ask the local butcher in Grace, or the taxidermist in Grace, Cody Spencer, (208) 425-3649. Last e-mail address I have for him is:

I agree. I have never given details about where I hunt (central Idaho) and sometimes I lie to people that ask me just to keep them out of 'my' spots!!

Ok, Geez, I wasn't looking for map coordinates, or anyone's secret hunting spots. I have a spot where one of the guys going this year hunted last year, but was looking for a backup location in case the elk just aren't there.

Thanks to those of you who did reply, I appreciate it.
