Savage may still have a lever gun with a box magazine or you might pick up one used.

My original post seems to have been lost, so I'll be brief in case it shows up...
If you're dead set on a lever action, it looks like you'll have to go for either a used one, or get lucky and find a dealer that still has one of the discontinued ones in stock.
However, if you'd settle for a pump action (I'm taking a guess that you just don't want semi-auto or bolt) Remington's 7600 comes in .270, .308, and 30-06 but not .300 win mag. I'm not sure on the price or the current US<->CA exchange rate, but it should be within your budget.

I am a bit late to answer and I couldn't find the original posting. So I am answering to the group. If you want a good lever action rifle try to find a used Winchester 88. You won't regret it. Since you mentioned Canadian Tire, you must be Canadian. So, go to your local gun shops and leave a message there saying you want one. A lot of people in Canada are getting rid of their rifles because of the new complicated expensive firearms laws. I work for the Quebec Provincial Police and every day I see people bring in firearms for destruction and I can do nothing about it. Once they are brought in, I must destroy them. Last week I destroyed a beautiful 1877 Enfield in .57 cal Snider with 3 boxes of original bullets with the rolled copper cases. Gun shop owners are buying guns and rifles for only a few dollars, removing parts and sending the rest to the police for destruction because of the hassle involved in inspecting, registering, and reselling.
