I'm looking for the right combination of a Weatherby magnum cartridge and light rifle. I've come to the conclusion that if you're going to look at a Weatherby you have to look at the magnums. However, I'm not fond of carrying around an 8 pound rifle not including the scope. The Ultra Lightweight is 6.75 pounds. But would the recoil be a little

Sam, Of all the Weatherby's around their seven has the least reason for being, it being more or less an identical twin to the 7mm Rem Mag, except you can't buy it everywhere. If you must have one of their proprietary rounds in a very light rifle why not pick the .257 Weatherby Magnum? Good hunting! Michael

I don't have the Ultra Lightweight, but my Weathermark's recoil is not bad. The recoil pad on the rifle does it's job well (it feels about like my father's 1954 Model 70 in .270 with the steel buttplate). It DOES have a rather nasty report, though, loud and harsh, wear good earmuffs at the range. As we say, it's the bark, not the bite, that's the only downside to that particular rifle.

But would the recoil be a little much? I just got an Ultra Light in 243 Winchester and the recoil was a surprise. A bit more then I thought it would be. But you carry it more the you shoot when hunting. What game do you plan to hunt as the 240 Wertherby might be just right. P.S. Ware a jacket, a sweater and two shirts it helps over 20+ rounds.
