I have a muzzle brake on my .300 Win Mag that was built and installed by the Van Horn Brothers in Gilbert Arizona. It tamed the recoil down tremendously, making it an enjoyable rifle to shoot. Actually, the whole rifle was built by them, it's a wonderful shooting left handed Rem. 700 action with one of their barrels, and all the goodies. It's a shooter!
But you do want to wear ear protection when shooting this (or any) muzzle braked rifle at the range. Well, you should be doing this anyway, but the muzzle blast from a braked rifle makes them quite LOUD!!! I don't think that the single shot (usually) when out hunting warrants the use of ear plugs, but I have a pair on a string around my neck. If I have the time, and see the animal far enough in advance that I can put them in, I will, otherwise, FIRE away!!
