For deer, of the two, I'd go with the 240 grain at 1250 assuming that's a hard cast, not swaged, SWC, with a fairly wide nose. I would not agree that there necessarily are better deer loads. If you have a gun that will shoot such a combination well, you have the perfect deer handgun.

Just so's you know I'm not contradicting myself, from what you may recall from past 'conversations', I use a 300 grain cast bullet at 1350+ fps in my hunting .44; that is not because I think it is a better deer load, but because it is a better go anywhere/do anything load when deer, black bear, elk, cougar, (jackrabbits, etc) are all possible targets and I don't feel like screwing around changing loads and resighting.
