For a hunter from overseas it is much more convenient to go to Canada than to the US. I do need a license for both countries. However, the Canadian license is available at the incoming airport whereas the US license has to be applied for at least 2 months in advance with the BATF. Forms are not available at the US consulates.

For me, Canada is more welcoming to the travelling hunter and, at the same time, less expensive with more available public land.

Best regards, Dirk

Absolutely, Canada is more gun friendly to the traveling hunter. Besides...there is no game left in US. All that is left is infected with CWD.

2 months planning for an overseas hunting trip is modest in my opinion. What is this license you have to apply for anyhow?

Bizzarrely true. Seems they trust 'you foreigners' more than they trust us...

True, the Canadian forms are 'pay at the door' while the American ones are 'apply and pay AFTER you bought the hunting licence, not before, but ARE available from the BATF web page for download. Search for 'form 6a', I believe. Also, check out the CFC web page for a link to it (http://www.cfc.gc.ca).

With our dollar looking fondly at the Mexican Peso , I'd imagine so! And, of course, about 85% of our entire country is still public land...

And funny, but maybe not so funny. I've a couple of biologist friends who were in Wisconsin, chatting with the DNR guys there. There are statements of having to 'cull' tens of thousands of whitetail deer there to try and stem this CWD, and tales of nobody knowing what to do with the corpses. Apparently, this feat is not outside the realm of possibility, and is in a reasonably small area, but the trick seems to be how to arrange the manpower and politics to go everywhere and do this job quickly and efficiently.

Yep, we're living in interesting times...
