I have been asked to start a hunting operation on 500 acres in Ky. The landowner wants to to have 8 gun hunters and 8 bow hunters a year. Four day hunts. Lodging and meals provided. All dressing and processing would be done as well for the meat packers fee. The farm hasn't been hunted all that much but a 150 B&C non typ. has been taken. You can take a buck and a doe.
My question is, would you pay 2000 for four days gun? 1750 bow price
Should i do it? Let me know what you guys think....

You wouldn't get $2K from me for 4 days in KY, when I can hunt a week in CO for about $150, including fuel to get there.

You can probably be excused for a bit of hyperbole, but with gas over a buck and a half a gallon, I've gotta believe that driving from anywhere for a week of hunting would put a dent in your $150. Then, the offer was for a buck and a doe, so let's take two resident deer licenses out of the $150

Not a chance. I could go to Wyoming (out of state) and hunt *much* cheaper than this - and likely get a bigger deer. Buck tag - $150 Doe tag - $50 Gas from Tx to Wy (hmm, 15mpg 2500 miles round trip, gas 1.50/gal) - $250 Hotel for 4 days ($50/night) - $200
Total - $650
Plus if I wanted to buy an antelope tag or 2, I could do that too!. Heck, I could even put in for an elk tag and stay well under your $2000.....
But don't let that deter you - you know what they say about a fool & his money ('they were lucky to get together in the first place' ....

I believe that 2k is a bit steep for a start up operation... perhaps after many years of QDM and having taken several B & C or P & Y bucks from the area folks wouldn't mind the fee... but Kentucky a state not known for outstanding sized bucks... Might be a stretch... even for a buck/doe....

No way in hell. That's WAY too much money for a CHANCE at a whitetai! About two years ago, I paid $350 for a two-day hunt at a so-called 'lodge' in Alabama. All I saw was two scrawny does.
For that kind of money, a guide had better be showing me a really nice elk, grizzly bear, or moose!
If you check what the 'market will bear,' you will see that such prices are totally out of the realm of reality. You would do well to get $500 for four days, and I personally wouldn't pay even that much

I would LOVE to go on a hunt like you are describing. Classic hunting camp with a guide to help find a good spot, and help take care of the animal.
But you have just described why I'll never be able to go. $2000.00 is a lot of money to a working stiff like me, and a lot of people like me.
Sorry, WAY too rich for my blood. BTW, why is bow cheaper? Still too much, but why cheaper?

Damn....350 for a two-day hunt? For scrawny does? Lessee....Missouri has a nine day hunt....600 acres and FAT does....that means we could do three 2-day hunts and a three dayer....say 500 for opening weekend and 350 for the middle blocks, then 400 for the long closing weekend.....8 hunters per block Now, if my mental math ain't too far off, that's a shade over 12 grand. We could turn one of the barns into a 'Lodge' (very rustic, doncha know), and have the Missus just double up what she normally fixes for Sunday meals. Yupp...there is some potential here. Come to think of it, we could probably DOUBLE those prices, reach out to Kentucky hunters and GUARANTEE a chance. Yessir, some real potential here. :>

Still, even with the raised prices it's a whole lot better than $2k for hunting deer in Kentucky!

I ran a camp in CANADA . Ontario, lodging, meals, guide for 1 week cost was $550. U.S. funds. We accomadated 25 hunters a week for 2 weeks. The key is to find 8 gun 8 bow hunters willing to pay $2000. for 4 days.
16 people.
Where will you advertise, ? Natioanal Magazines ? Local Newspaper? Internet?.
Examine all costs, Lodging, Giude, Cooks, Food, Business Lisences. Your gross income will be $32,000. MINUS your expenses. will be your net then your TAXES.
Will this be a hobbie, is it worth the headaches?
only you can count the cost, weigh pro & cons GOOOD HUNTIN BILL
