It seems my posts to this newsgroup tend to not show up so I'm trying again. If it is a duplication - please forgive me.

Anyone have experience/comments on the Springfield scopes ( primarily 4 - 14 X 56 First or Second Generation)? Mainly interested in clarity, brightness and ability to hold zero when bounced around (like on a four wheeler). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have one on a (Gen. 2) .308 Ruger VT. It is VERY clear and the reticle is great and accurate. It is ballistically tuned 'the reticle' for a .308 168 grain bullet going 2650 +/- 150 fps. My reloads are in that range and I know it works very well to 300+ yds. I went through a couple lost one because the rifle stock has a flawed laminate at the recoil lug, and blew out the reticle. The second replacement scope was improperly repaired. I am on my third. They are Great scopes, however keep on them if you get a 'Bad' one they will replace/repair in less than a month (they should on a $500+ scope). I don't know if I got a couple of bad scopes or poor QA/QC, or if the scopes are not durable. They are supposed to be recoil resistant to a .50 BMG. Shepard scopes make a great clear scope ballistically tuned for your cartridge and rangefind to 1000 yds. They are a little more expensive though.
