Slug for black bear

I was wondering which slug the group would reccomend the most for bear hunting. The shotgun will be a bolt action with a fully rifled barrel and the max range for the shot will be 25 yards, and i will be in a stand about 15' off the ground. I have researched some slugs on the net but am having a hard time deciding which one to go with. Sabot? Brenneke? etc. etc. etc.

You should shoot Sabots in a rifled barrel. Pick up a box each of several different brands and see which pattern best in your particular gun.

Try out a bunch of them and the go with the one that shoots the best in your gun.

On the other hand there is no law saying a fellow can't try Foster-type or Brenneke fixed wad slugs in a rifled tube. I've done it and they were at least no less accurate than when fired through a smooth bore. I'm sure the sabot'd sub-caliber deer projectiles will suffice but if Jim's accuracy requirements can be met the extra cross section of a .72 inch diameter Brenneke can't hurt. The Brenneke is one sturdy, deep penetrating gob of lead. Good hunting!

25 yards with a slug gun? I'd say anyone of a dozen 'shoot best' at that yardage.

If it were me, I'd take a bow instead.

I urge you to try Lightfield sabot slugs. I tested several brands and types a few years ago in my rifled, bolt-action 12 guage, and discovered they are best in terms of accuracy and down-range energy. Also, they seem to have a certain quality above the others i'll just call womp-ass.
