Hello, I just bough my first rifle with a scope and will be going out to sight it soon.
Although all I have read indicate that indocate that scopes should be adjusted at 100 yards, some hunters indicated me to adjust the scope from a distance of about 75 yards for a 30-06 or 65 for a .270.
Does anyone have recommendation on the distance for bench-adjustement of the scope? I just bought a Remington 700 30-06.

Hopefully you'll start with the rifle 'bore sighted'. Most gunshops have some kind of optic device for that. I do it at home by taking the bolt out and set the rifle in slots cut in a cardboard box to hold it still. Look down the bore and point the rifle at some small object, say, 50-75 yds away. Without moving the rifle check if the crosshair is on the same object. ( I use the corner of a sign in a parking lot about 80 yds away.) If not, without moving the rifle, adjust the crosshair to that point.. At the range start at no more than 50 yard and shoot your first couple shots at a target. They should be on paper. By using sandbags, or some way to keep the rifle from moving,
