Im in the market for a stainless 338win. I currently own a 10fp .308 which is dead accurate and reliable. but have never used a magnum savage. are the mags as reliable, and accurate to 1.5'? also i want a 2 piece base, the one piece leupold i use now is in the way when i load the rifle, but seems sturdy. i was looking at the burris dual dovetail 2 pc. to mount my vx-III 3.5-10x40. I know there are 'better' rifles out there, and someone will claim the cost is not that much different. But i can buy this rifle new for 300$ The other contender is a ruger, but i heard they are not as accurate, and i would rather stick to an action i am used to.

thank you

I own a .338 win mag in a Savage. It is a great gun. I handload and I shoot 200 Speer Spitzer, 225 Nosler Partitions, and 250 Grandslams under an inch. I don't know about factory ammo, but all of my Savages have shot well. I do not like the plastic/synthetic stock that came on the gun. I prefer the laminate wood as it is the most consistent of the factory stocks.

I own two of the boyds stocks. they are nice.

You should have a great gun. I had to open the forarm on my boyd to fit the ..338 barrel in, but that was not a problem.
