I'm new to this forum, so I must have missed the posts concerning the accuracy of the Ruger Mini-14. I've been coveting one for use as a varmint rifle. Can someone please give me unbiased statistics that prove it's inaccuracy? Or, explain why it's an inaccurate gun, please; i.e. poor machining or open tolerances. I own other Ruger products, and find them to be nothing less than outstanding. Best bang for the buck, if you'll pardon the pun. Thank you.

Here are a couple of places that can help. If you start out with a Mini at $450.00 and add $600.00 to $700.00 you will have a sub MOA shooting MINI 14 that cost the same as an out of the box Colt that needs $300.00 plus to shoot as well. Having said that I own both Mini 14 and Colts. I grab the Ruger first and my friends grab the evil looking Colt!! Both shoot equally well. Hi cap Mini mags are not cheep. Try these links

The Ruger Mini14 is not intended to be a match accurate rifle, Ruger even admits it. It is intended to be a plinker that will hit 'man sized' targets out to 200 yards or so. Man sized being 5 to 7 moa, give or take. I have heard of people with 2 to 3 moa Mini14's, but it's rare.

Clark Custom Guns claims to be able to get less than 1 moa out of them, but the cost will prohibit it for most of us.

For the money spent, you'd be better off with a custom bolt action for varmint shooting.

Herewith, my stock reply to the perennial Mini-14 question...

'The Mini-14 is a handy little fighting carbine for third world paramilitaries and police who choose to stick with the 5.56x45mm cartridge. Some hunters are schocked when they discover it is not accurate enough to shoot rats at 300 yards. A good Mini-14 will keep all its shots inside four inches at 100 yards. They are very, to completely, reliable when fed good ammo through good magazines. So, if you have vermin or small game, or smallish big game, with a kill zone larger than a grapefruit you are all set. Buy spare factory five round magazines and practice ammo, not aftermarket gewgaws.'

Good hunting!
