Hi all,

I picked up an older but seldom used 1100 with a fixed choke barrel (modified) and I'm wondering if I can shoot slugs with this barrel. I've checked Remington's site but can't seem to find an answer.

Should not be a problem. You don't want to shoot rifled slugs however as without rifling they would not be effective. Old Foster style would be OK. I shoot slugs through my improved cylinder 1100 with my own cast Lyman slugs.

You can shoot sugs through your barrel just fine. You want to use rifled slugs and not Sabots, they are for rifled barrels.

Foster-type slugs will work okay, but old Remingtons occasionally had problems with split barrels.

You can shoot most slugs through you fixed chocke barrel, though accuracy may be pretty crappy. You never know though, sometimes you get a flukey gun that will shoot riffeled slugs well through a tight choke.

I never had a problem shooting slugs out of my 1100 or my dad's 1100. They both preferred the older style rifled slug that looks like a sewing thimble when you cut it out of the shell. I never did try the sabot slug much because the others were cheaper and did just fine for what I used them for. Both guns were modified fixed chokes. There many many boxes of the older 25 count shot through them and never a problem.
