It has been awhile but it appears that it is time to post this again. There are a few problems that the moderators are finding in many of the postings.

The major one is excessive quoting. Please delete any and all excess quoted text from your replies LEAVING THE SENTENCE OR PARAGRAPH that you are repling to. What should be deleted includes, but is not limited to: * signature blocks of previous posters * quoted text unrelated to the points you are addressing

Just as bad are the postings that do not contain any part of the original message. Think about it, if someone is new to a particular thread how are they supposed to follow the conversation.

Another problem is placing the new text of the message right at the top. In order to make for an easier flow of conversation that everyone can follow, when replying to another person, place your comments AFTER the quoted text. Note that this is counter to the default of how the email programs from Microsoft want to do it. But it was, and remains, the Internet standard since long before MS was on the 'net.

Call me lazy but I actually prefer the response text to be ABOVE the quoted text so I don't have to scroll down. For any active reader we already know the gist of the quoted text and if necessary we can always scroll down to see the quoted text.

I almost always delete posts where I have to scroll in order to read the reply.

Just my $.02 worth....

This URL doesn't seem to be a working site. Are you sure you typed in the correct URL?

The URL did work for me just a few minutes ago.

Try again. The site could have been down for a few minutes when you tried.

It was not MS that decided that most recent stuff is at the top. Way before internet, you put the latest 'change log' info at the top. Code of course had to go where it was appropriate but normal text info is 'most recent at the top'. Not an MS decision and long before the Internet.

Anyone who is not an idiot knows that the RFC's are NOT standards, but 'Requests for Comments'.

If you want to have a little fun, look up RFC 2100. It was written, tongue FIRMLY in cheek, by a friend of mine a couple of years ago. (Note the publication date.)

In addition, I would like to add that since this is a non-moderated forum there is no need for 'standards', conventions or otherwise as far as I'm concerned. For forums where such things can be enforced then obviously we all must comply, and agree to by posting to the forum.

Last I checked this forum is NOT moderated. The day it does I will either abide by the rules and standards of the group or go elsewhere.

Until then I will enjoy my right to post however I like.

I would say an 'idiot' is someone who insults the moderators....
