This is my first year to get a live kill on anything...so far, 12 ducks and one rabbit. It is amazing to me, when I smoke duck along with chicken or steak, I notice that the wild game actually has flavor and the beef or chicken's flavor is only the seasoning I put on it. Frankly, it tastes like cardboard - compared to wild game. What is even more amazing is that our kids (ages 2, 3, 5) would rather eat daddy's duck or fresh fish than go to McDonald's or eat steak/chicken. Anyway, just wondered if anyone else has come to this conclusion........

The first time I brought home grouse my daughter said, 'ewww, grouse' (she's four). We have a rule in our family that everyone has to try a bite of anything new. By the end of dinner, she'd eaten most of the bird and was asking if we could have grouse every night! My little carniverous one-year-old (we are mostly vegetarian other than wild game/fish) ate all we gave her.

Unfortunatly, the best I could do last year (first year for me) was two birds in a day. This was just enough to feed our family of four, but she still wanted more. She wants to go grouse hunting with me but I think I'll wait a few more years. Fishing first.

My only problem as a newbie is that I still remember the smell of the guts of the damn grouse at dinner time. That's vile!
