Is there any interest in organizing a rec.hunting goose hunting trip?

There are already 3 of us (me, Frank McCurry, & Mike Watts) planning on getting together in Bay City, TX and hunt with Coastal Wings (Larry Robinson) the weekend of December 20 & 21 (the Saturday & Sunday before Christmas). The ideal group size would be 6 or 7 people (Larry would make 8).

Larry is a personal friend of mine and I know him well. Last year we all hunted with Larry during this same time frame and killed 22, 28, & 38 geese (plus assorted ducks & a couple of sandhill cranes). I believe Frank has pictures of several geese he had mounted, including a couple of real nice 'eagle heads' (blue phase snow goose with a white head). Since last year, Larry has built a lodge (for those wanting to stay there instead of a cheap motel) and added *another* 30,000 acres (bringing him up to almost 60,000 acres leased).

Information on Coastal Wings (including rates) can be found on his website at http://www.coastalwings.com/

I wish I could see my way to flying halfway across the country five days before Christmas, but I think my wife would murder me. I think a drive over to Summer Lake is the best I will be able to manage.

If anybody here wants to get together to shoot snows at Summer Lake around December, let me know.

Aren't the snows around more in early November? I'm going to University of Oregon, but if my studies permitted, that might be some fun

It pretty much depends on the weather. Let's stay in touch. I live not far south of you. My old hunting buddy of years standing has run into some health problems, and I don't think he is going to be in the field much any more.

Come on guys who wants to go put the smack down on some snows?

Larry put us right on the birds last year. The third day I hunted with him we were just across the field from the roost and could literally see what we had in store!

I believe

Got my trophy eagle head mounted it turned out really nice!

Hi Chris

I've been lurking for some time, but then this post popped up, and I had to respond.

I would dearly love to join you and your group. But I looked at the calendar, and flying cross country (N-S) that close to Christmas is simply is out of the question - and driving isn't an option either.

Sounds like great trip. Post the details.

Thanks

Sorry about that. Its pretty hard to even mention hunting here on campus, forget about finding someone to actually go. I've got some hunter 'tolerant' friends, I'm trying to subtly work on them abit. Sounds good though, I won't be able to plan anything too far in advance, but drop me a
