Hello, I want to go dog shooting this year but I live in Indiana. Does anyone have some good advice for hunting areas where I could drive too, over a extended three day weekend and have some fun? I have been exploring South Dakota but that is a long long drive.....does anyone know of any closer places where I could check in with local officials and do some shooting?

Weren't they just declared an 'endangered specis (sp?) this year?

I think one species was so declared, the black-tailed or some such, which is found in some limited area, I don't know where. There are PLENTY of the other species.

If you can arrange some time you can contact the varmint king in a small town in southeast new mexico. He shoots dogs in his sleep and put you on some outrageous towns. I think he is charging a small fee now but if you want to pop some caps then he is your man. He is also a very good gunsmith. His name is Jerry Frame he owns a machine shop called Frames Machine. I am not going to post his number you can look it up if you want or email me and I will have him contact you.

Happy shooting

No, they were NOT placed on the endangered species list.

Last March, I went out to a prairie dog town in west Texas. My buddies and I were just setting up when we met with a trapper. He asked us to not shoot the pups because they were valuable. He told us he was selling each pup for $100 to wholesalers and that they were selling in Europe for about $500 US and in Japan for about $750 US.

In Texas prarie dogs are on the un-protected list with no closed season. A valid Texas hunting license and property owner's permission is required.

One of the pet shops in Austin once sold prairie dogs. Darn things kept gnawing through the walls of their display case.

However, I really don't like the idea of having one for a pet. Of course, Europeans and Japanese may be eating them. OTOH, I have no problem with the idea of shooting them from afar. Weird.

BTW, any one ever see how they remove PD's from a town? One kickup vacuum
