Your first try should be McCain valley north of Lark Canyon ORV park. Watch out for snakes this time of year.

Bear valley would be a decent alternative, or the Deer Park area of the head waters of Pine Creek. That puts you on the back side of Cuyamaca State Park where you might spot some overflow.

That's what I said John, untill I saw a video called 'Exploding Varmits' and they specifically said southern california. You'd think this dry climate.. well anyway. I am looking for small Varmits. Not a big game hunter, that and also some one who goes out to do the same everyonce and while.. I'm a heavy barrell .22 shooter type, if that get anyone's interest.

Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Jump through the hoops the Marines want of anyone hunting the base and you can shoot a bunch of ground squirrels.

Thanks Gunney,

But the base has closed it self to any and all recreation now. That includes Jeep trails, camping, or ground squirell shooting. It was my first pick esp since I'm active duty and could get on relativly easy all things considered. In fact, I can't store guns on base (vice my unsecure appt) any longer because of new rules and regulations. I am waiting from the BLM manager from McCain Valley area to hear what they say. I am also going to 'Advertise' in Jamul area to local farmers etc. That may provide results.
