Why, thanks, Sparkie! Same goes right back at you! And most of all, I'm wishing all hunters a safe hunt. Better to return to camp with no deer than to shoot at a running buck and kill your hunting buddy!

I'll be on stand one hour before daylight, waiting for a certain 10-point I've had my eye on for the last several months. He walks along the same trail just about every morning just after the sun comes up. I'm guessing that I'll be pulling the trigger about 45 minutes into legal shooting time (if I see him at all, that is). Funny how they can surprise you on opening day by changing their routine, no matter how careful you are at masking your scent, keeping quiet, keeping still, etc.....

Good luck all!

Funny how they can surprise you on opening day by changing their routine, no matter how careful you are at masking your scent, keeping quiet, keeping still, etc.....

last night took his clothes out of mothballs, and at 5-am this morning, wiped the dust from his rifle, stopped at King's for breakfast (smoking section please, missy), filled up the Honda with gas, put in a quart of oil, decided to go ahead and eat the Slim Jim he was savin' for later, belched wishin' he hadn't had those last three shots of JD on top of those four beers, ate three-fourths of a roll of spearmint Rolaids, poured himself a cuppa Joe for the ride and forgot to put the lid back on the thermos, even after he spilled it in his lap on the drive to his stand, humped in with a car battery strapped to his back so he could find his stand with his new, million-candle-power flashlight, still got lost, then decided he'd just wait till daybreak to find his stand, plunked his funky buns on the ground, farted, waited for the sun to rise, remembered he hadn't loaded his weapon, fumbled in his pocket for those green, velvet coated cartridges he's been hangin' on too for five years, managed to jam one round in the chamber, look up in time to see a magnificent ten-point standing twenty yards away, flipped the safety off after having to remove his gloves and use both hands 'cause he was shaking with buck-fever so bad he dropped the gun twice, pulled up to aim, removed the scope covers, pulled up to aim again, breathed into the scope, wiped the scope off in time to watch the deer disappear down the trail laughing so hard to itself, that he forgot about the appointment he had with three horny does that meet him every morning in the crabapple patch just beyond your stand.

I wish all of my fellow PA hunters the best of luck tomorrow, may you all be safe, enjoy your hunt, and be thankful we are at present still able to enjoy our sport. Those of you hunting by different laws in different states, I wish you the same.

Lost a good friend opening day. Lou Dececco (sp) was a fellow Nam vet who accompanied a few others of us to various speaking engagements at high schools, colleges, etc, talking to students about our war experiences. On opening day he and his wife went hunting and shortly after daybreak his wife heard a shot coming from Lou's direction. While walking toward his stand she found an 8 pt. that he'd just killed, and found him still in his stand, dead of a heart attack. In the past we always talked about hunting together during archery season, but since we live on completely opposite sides of the Pittsburgh area, the hunt never came to fruition. Another yesterday I wish I had back..........

'Mike'

I understand that words can do so little, but still...

You have my deepest personal sympathy on your loss.

Many years ago, I too lost my 'growing up buddy', my hunting pal. He, regretably committed suicide after his wife had left him. I understand something of your pain.

Again, my sympathy to you and your friend's wife.
