My .02ยข...

Browning Citori. Great all-round gun. I looked at SKB models, ORION, Red Labels, and off brands. Browning fit me just right.

Gran Lightning in 28' Great chokes, good weight (around 8 lbs, 12 gauge) Around $1700-$2000, depending on dealer. http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/ citori/citlgtng/cit...

I am not all too thrilled with the satin finish. Easy to scratch.

( I own a white lighting 12, 26'. I like the 26' for quail, really quick swing.) http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/ citori/citlgtng/cit...

For more durable look at the Hunter grade in 28' Comes with the 3 1/2 chamber A bit heavier (around 8 1/2, 12 gauge) http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/ citori/cithuntr/cit...

Again, my experience.

Good luck. I know I had an ear to ear grin when I finally slapped down the cash for my O/U. Took me 5 years of saving...and it was worth it. Let me know what you get.

Jim, I love my Browning Citori White Lightning. Mine is in 20 Ga, at 6.25 lbs its perfect for grouse, pheasant and woodcock. I looked hard at the 12 as well and only picked the 20 because I hunt over pointing dogs, didn't think I needed to lug the extra weight of the 12 and couldn't imagine taking a $1300 shotgun duck hunting. It balances and points perfectly for me, which is maybe the most important criteria. Look at the Ruger, Brownings, Weatherby, Berrettas, and decide based on which fits you best.
