I got some mail from this North American Hunting Club. In the letter that was inclosed it said that if I become a member then companies will send their guns, bows, camping gear and other outdoor accessories to be tested out by me and other hunters. And for taking the time to test these accessories out I will get to keep everything that is sent to me. All I have to do is write what I thought of their product. The costs are $2.00 a month with taxes and the membership can be stopped at any time with a full refund. It sounds like a sweet deal but is it just some crock or is it for real?

Has anyone out there a North American Hunting Club Member?

From what has been posted here in the past, you're basically subscribing to their magazine. Maybe every 10-15 years ONE person might get to 'test' a firearm, but don't hold your breath. More likely you'll get some test item that retails for less than $10. But if you want a hunting magazine for $24/year, go for it. I've never heard anything bad about the mag itself.

I am a life member of the NAHC. I have been chosen as a field tester six times. Nothing really big yet. Biggest has been a box call for turkeys and an electric scent disperser. To be one you have to ask them for a field tester app., fill it out and send it back in. So far it has averaged about a year between the sending and the being chosen to test something. Your dues really amount to the mag sub. which is a pretty good mag. I think.

Here's my opinions:

Magazine-Pretty decent overall, I like the 'You Call the Shots' feature which is a shoot/don't shoot scenario

Field test- haven't even signed up

Gear giveaway- costs a post stamp to send in entry for a good selection of gear

Website- has large members only section with classified section, large bulletin board for discussions, deals from outfitters for members and a bunch of other features.

Overall impression: I am getting my moneys worth.

I was skeptical of the club about 3-4 years ago, but took the attitute that I was at least getting a decent magazine for the money.

Since then, I've recieved 2 turkey calls, a knifew, and a really nice gun case (padded for carrying) to test and keep.

I'm a life member now (I did the math, and it was worth it for me). I say join, and just be aware they will send you stuff and offers (books, videos, etc. that if you don't want, just call and they'll stop sending. I liked som eof it). + the NAHC does donate to conservation groups and causes.

Try and see if you like it. I was leery at first, but now like it.

Yea, you do need to call and ask for the form - have Tim do that. Basically, if you review the item your sent, and send the review in, each item to test gets better...but don't expect a miracle and something great fast - they have to spread the stuff around to everybody!

Basically, figure it as a magazine subscription with nice bonuses and you won't be disappointed.

In answer to your questions about the club and the testing of hunting equipment - what you said is true - if you test equipment and write a report, you keep the equipment. However, I am sent something to test less than once per year and thus far, it has ranged in value from a couple of $ to about $25 (very few people as a % of membership get guns or expensive equipment to test). You also get a hunting magazine, can get reports on outfitters, swap hunts - to name a few. Like many other things, you get about what you pay for.

I was a member once. (Been there, done that.) To make a long story short, don't get your hopes up that you will see anything other than their magazine invoices and other sales related advertising.
