Here's my dilemna.

I am going on my second turkey hunt this spring. Last fall was my first. I used my Mossberg 500 12-ga with the fixed-choke barrel (modified...?) even though I knew this was not ideal because I wasn't sure I would like turkey hunting and didn't want to spend the extra dough. Well, I did like it, and so this spring I wan to get the right tool for the job.

My problem is that a barrel with choke threads is $127 from Mossberg, and my local dealers would charge the same and warn of availability problems, and then I still need the get the extra full choke for another $27. So throw in some shipping charges, and I've spent maybe $165 bucks for my barrel/choke combo. For about $75 more than that, if I keep my eyes open, I can get another Mossberg 500 with the threaded barrel. I guess I'd still have to get the choke.

So basically I can get a whole nother GUN for just another $80 or so.

SO... whadya think? Anyone have a source for a Mossberg barrel at a discount? I don't understand why I can't find a dealer to apply the standard 25% off retail discount on this.

The reason I have the barrel I do is that the plastic stock Model 500 comes with that barrel and the short home-defense barrel, whereas the slightly more expensive wood-stocked 500 come with the threaded barrel and a short barrel. Didn't think I'd be turkey hunting, and thought I'd save a buck, ha ha.

It wouldn't break my heart to have a spare shotgun around the place... maybe I could finally get my brother to go grouse hunting with me...

Isn't it great to have an excuse to buy another shotgun?? Myself, I've hunted turkeys here in ohio for several years now and have found the Winchester 1300 my wife got me for christmas one year does a super job. Mine has the laminated camo stock. I really llike the way the gun handles too. It came with 3 chokes, so I've used it for about anything and everything altho I have several other shotguns. Not trying to sell you on this one
