I have both a handi rifle and one of their shotguns. I like them both. You can't go wrong. I'm more of a bird hunter than a deer hunter, so the rifle is perfect for the amount of deer hunting I do. I've had no probs getting deer with it. So far (knock on wood) no second shots needed.

So if you want a new single shot gun you can spend $800-1,500 for the Remington or Browning single shots, or spend $200 on a great gun that will do the same

Hello,

I have one in .223. Accurate and light. Biggest problem is trigger and lock time. It takes much longer for the hammer to fall than for a bolt gun to fire. It takes some pratice to hold it still while the hammer falls. Once you get the hang of it, no problems. In fact I found that shooting the NEF and having to keep still has helped with my bolt guns. One other thing, the chamber is very tight on mine. It is necessary to fully resize every time. No neck sizing, ever.

I have owned several of these fine guns. I once used one in 22 Hornet to kill a truck load of coyotes. It didn't blow them off their feet but it did kill them real dead, and always with just one shot. I have owned them in 22 Hornet, 30-30 and 45/70 calibers. Right now I have one in 45/70 and I love it. I shoot paper patch lead bullets and can ring the 325 yard gong with some regularity, using black powder and 420 gr bullets For the money, these single shots are the best buy ever created. I also shoot Ruger #1, custom bolt guns and some exotic weapons, but for sheer fun there is nothing like a break open single shot. Oh... you can also shoot rapidly if you practice a little. Just hold extra rounds between your left hand fingers and shove'em in fast.....

For the money, they are very accurate. Mine are in .44 Rem Mag & a spare barrel in 45-70. That 2nd barrel is a excellent value at $ 86 (including shipping)! Trigger, as others have mentioned takes some getting used to. Like the transfer bar safety system, it is a more secure safety for external hammers. Although my experience has been with rimmed cartridges, I have heard those with standard (no rim such as the cartridges you mentioned) sometimes have extraction problems, to the extent that some take a spare cleaning rod with to remove brass that has failed to extract. Would I buy again

What is the process for getting a second barrel? Do they have a catalog with a listing? I'm looking at purchasing one in a 30-06, everything I've heard from several sources, not just this news group, makes it sound like a great inexpensive hunting rifle. If extra barrels are easy enough to come by, and change out I like the idea of taking the one that 'fits my fancy' at the time. Thanks.

Before you buy.

I inquired to NEF once on this very subject. They replied they could fit any rifle barrel to any RIFLE action (receiver). You have to send the action back to the factory to have it custom fitted for the barrel of your choice. Rifle barrels will not work with shotgun actions, but shotgun barrels will work with rifle actions. I guess the receiver is beefed up for the rifles.

figure on them having your action 6-8 weeks. Try and forget you sent it, then it's a pleasant suprise when it shows up.
