I'm considering relocating to Philadelphia (from Iowa). I'm wondering what bowhunting is like in Pennsylvania.
Where I currently live, I can leave home and be in my tree about 45 minutes later, on a piece of private land. It's 100 acres of timber with corn/soybeans on 2 sides. A *nice* situation, I know.
Here, the season lasts from 10/1 until the first week in December, when gun season kicks in. That lasts 2 weeks, then you can bowhunt again until 1/10.
The last few years, it's been possible to get more than one bow tag if you hunt specific areas of the county, antlerless first, then you can take a buck.
So, living in the city might make for only weekend trips; I doubt I could leave work early in the afternoon and get 2 hours on stand like I can now. That would be one major difference. Are there others? What's the bow season like in Pennsylvania? Are the deer bigger than they are in the Midwest? Must bowhunters coexist with gun hunters, or muzzle loaders? How are the laws? Here, there's no baiting and no use of animals. Is it possible to get more than one deer per season there, or is there a strict, one-per-season limit? Is gun season rifles or shotgun/slug?
Thanks in advance.

Somewhat similar. October is big bow month. Use of weapon depends on region. Rifles OK in most of state but in Phila and Chester county area, its shotguns. You get a buck tag with license and must apply to county for doe tag. Bonus tags are sometimes available for deer damage counties. Muzzleloaders must be flintlock except when used in rifle season or special areas. I would guess competition will be much more keen and finding good spots tight but that's how it is here in the crowded east coast.

Nearby NJ, you can take, depending on the zone at least 1 buck/season and sometimes more. In addition, 1 doe/season or more, so if you hunt fall bow, fall permit bow, muzzleloader, 6 day firearm, permit shotgun, and winter bow, it's a minimum of 12 deer. And south Jersey has tons of 'em.
Being as I am from Jersey, I can't wait to get out of here. PA is much better, but Phili is another story. I hope this job pays some serious cash, you will need it.
