I am undecided as to which caliber to buy for texas deer hunting as well as mule deer hunting in montana. Any ideas on the 7mm-08 or .260? Thanks in

Either is acceptable. Use the one YOU like the best.

I do not think the deer will ever know the difference. They are so similar that neither will the man behind the rifle. They are both in old line and popular European calibers that are used on bigger game.
I suspect that the 7mm may be a little easier to find ammo for and if you are of Scandinavian descent your ancestors may smile.
Pick the one that appeals to you and go forth with confidence never looking back, knowing you have picked a capable cartridge. Good

I shot two deer with a 7mm-08 last year with great results. It's a near-perfect deer caliber, in my less-than-expert opinion! A Remington Mountain Rifle would be pretty cool... mine is a Model 7, and that's great too, but for more wide-open hunting you'd appreciate that extra 2 inches of barrel, or 4 inches on a regualr rifle.
Anyway, great caliber. I don't know nuthin' about no .260.
