Anyone know the shelve life of M.R.E.s? I have some that I bought before they discovered you could chuck'em out of airplanes. Just wondering if they are still good. (well, usable anyway)

The old C-rations shelf life was 20 years, the new brown MRE's are rated to a 3 year shelf life, last I checked... if it don't smell like food you can guarentee its an M.R.E. (Meals Refused by Ethiopians) good luck...

So I guess 14 years is way past the expiration date. Hmmm...might improve the taste.

Doesn't matter as long as you have some Tabasco, it'll taste the same.

It is but over the years it turns to brown powder. Maybe a few drops of water to rehydrate?

It kind of depends on how they were stored but a good guess would be somewhere between 5 and 10 years. If they were stored at 60 Degrees or below they would last longer and be in better shape.

I do not know what kind you have but I have had a couple of different kinds that I can comment on. I have tried the Tan colored surplus military MRE's and I really like those. They have the heaters in them for the main course and are really tasty. I have also tried some of the the older MRE's that come in a dark brown package and while the main course was OK the rest of the stuff was not as good and the fruit was dehydrated so you had to add water to it. I know there are a lot of jokes about them being really bad and from what I understand the older c-rations and MRE's left something to be desired as fas as taste was concered. But, these new ones in the tan package are really good as far as I am concerned. If any of you don't think so, that's fine. I'll be happy to take them off your hands!

When we have them we use them quite a bit when we are out hunting. It's really nice to take that break during the day and sit and have something warm to eat. I am not a little guy and I have yet to be hungry after eating one of them.
