I just bought an old winchester mod 94, serial # 15622xx. i was told it was about 30 years old. anyone know a better guess? anyway, the main question of this post isn't about the age, but rather he calibre. the fellow i bought it from said it is a 30-30. i noticed that on the barrel, though, it is stamped 'mod 94 30 - WCF. so....is .30 WCF the same as 30-30?

Hi Yep 30WCF simply means Winchester Center Fire. If its any indicator and I'm sure it is, I have a M94 with very close to the same # (a bit lower) that I purchased from the PX in Japan in 1954. Then I took it to a former engraver to the Emperor and had it engraved and inlayed with traditional western style complete with ivory inlays on the stock. The whole job came to $40 and I paid $42.25 at the PX for the rifle. I wouldn't take $1000 for it today! Have used it on many hunts and it shows use and TLC. It is going to go to one of my granddaughters one day. Ol Shy & Bashful

Yes the .30 WCF (Winchester Center Fire) is the same cartridge as the 30-30. I suspect that with that marking though it is over 60 years old and an even sweeter deal as long as it it in good firing order.
