Anybody have a Marlin lever action with a 'scout' mounted scope. Looking at putting a reddot sout style on my 336. Most of my shots are around 75 yrds.

A scout scope on a levergun is a handy setup but the red dot sight has no eye relief so why not use the much cheaper Weaver base to mount it in the conventional position over the receiver? Otherwise the AO (or whatever they call themselves these days) Scout mount looks pretty good. My 1895G will probably wear one one of these years... Good hunting!

I was thinking about putting it on my 1895M. but ended up putting on the normal wever style mount. most my shots are at about 75yrds also. I do how ever have a few opertunities to take some longer shots so I like the normal scope position for them. so I desided against it. Maybe If I end up switching it to my Guide gun I might think about using it. or just might go with the peep set up by the same company I like the looks of that sight. I had a differn't peep on it that mounted to the side of the gun I did't like it at all.

I've got a Marlin 336T with an 18.5 inch barrel I found at a pawn shop. I put the Ashley Scout mount on it and the Leupold Scout scope. I really like it. You can still carry it normally without the scope being in the way and the scope out front puts a little extra weight out there and makes the gun hang better. I haven't shot it a lot yet. It's in for a trigger job right now. It has shot well so far, and I'm sure with a usable trigger it will do even better. I had a Steyr Scout for a while I backed into, but later sold it. I could easily hit beer can sized targets with it at 200 from sitting. I haven't shot the Marlin past 100 yet. The low power scope is a little funny if you are used to looking through higher power scopes. But you just have to 'trust the cross hairs'. Where ever they are when the gun goes off, that's where the bullet is going. Kind of like iron sights. I'm hot to get the gun back and shoot it some more. A buddy of mine rigged his Marlin the same way last year. He's not a big rifle freak or anything and he killed a 6 pointer with it last year. I think for a guy who doesn't shoot past 200 and will probably shoot mostly inside 150, the lever scout is a good rig. The scope won't pull things in like a coyote hung up at 200, but it's not really a varmint gun. I don't know about the red dot. It would be nice to have whatever kind of sight you mount set up forward so it will be out of the way to make carrying the gun easier. For 75 yards it would probably be super fast on target.
