I have a chance to buy a new Burris 2.5 x 10, posi-lock, A.O., matte finish, for $310 delivered. I am wondering if this is a better scope for this money than the new Leupold VX-II 3 x 9 matte for $275 out the door locally.

Any input appreciated. I live in the middle of nowhere, so I can't do a side by side comparison.

Thanks,

Both are excellent scopes and you'll be very happy with either. I've not seen that particular brand of Burris scope, but it *sounds* like it is a better scope (realizing that 'better' at this level is working on small margins).

If it makes a difference, the Burris is a signature series. The biggest reason why I'm considering the Burris is that it is about $100 less than I've seen anywhere else.

Scott,

I also am in the market for a new scope, but I have been looking at the 4 X 12 A.O. from Burris and Leupold. Two questions: 1) Where are you finding such a great deal, and 2) for the other responders, why Burris over Leupold? I can't find anything definitive in my research between the two.

Again, any insight you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Gota go with Dave here. Over 35 years of hunting I've owned LOTS of scopes. If it doesn't say Leupold on it. You won't find it on my rifles. If I had the money I'd try Zise <sp?> or something on that order. But for the money, Leupold just can't be beat.

Just my opinion (and we know what opinions are like)

I have the Burris Signature 4 X 12 Posi-Loc on a Remington 700 VLS 308 and have had no problems. I have 6 Burris scopes and have never had any problems. That looks like a good price.

I bought a Burris last year...I like it so far. I looked at a Leupold too, but the Burris looked better when I looked through it at the gun shop. I took it outside the shop and decided to buy it.

Scott Bershing wrote, 'I have a chance to buy a new Burris 2.5 x 10, posi-lock, A.O., matte finish, My relatives in the gun business told me that while Leupolds are almost never returned by the customer, many Burris scopes are. In fact, it seems to be a common occurence for a Burris to be returned to the factory before it's ever 'right.'

I remember reading an NRA evaluation of a Burris scope, and IIRC using the Posi-Lock feature slightly changed the zero. The whole purpose of that feature is to 'lock down' the zero, right?

When I got a scope for my Model 70 in .416 Remington magnum, I got the Leupold Vari-X III in 1.5-5X. It had longer eye relief than any comparable Burris, which is critical on a heavy recoiling rifle.

I also noticed that Burris did not offer any quick-release rings, so I do not consider them to be a serious competitor in the area of dangerous game rifles.

One of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, place to order scopes from is www.bearbasin.com. I saved about $65 on a Leupold I ordered from them, almost enough to pay for the bases and rings!
