Well yes, but if you come to New Zealand we have the world's largest herd of Sika deer in the Kaimanawa beech forest in the central North Island. No hunting fees, no season, no bag limit. Just get yourself here and get a firearms permit and they're all yours.

They're legally a noxious pest, but some of us look on them as a fantastic natural resource. There's currently a strong movement to eradicate all introduced wild game, so the more of you overseas folks that come here and write 'deer hunting' in the Reason For Visit box on your immigration slip the happier I'll be.

Should anyone want details of where to stay, what gear to bring, hunting techniques, game density etc etc I'll be very happy to oblige.

Well, I'm interested. If you don't want to post it here I'd appreciate it if you e-mailed me the info... especially info on getting the visitor's permit and firearms restrictions/suggestions/etc...

Julian, Would you be willing to swap a sika hunt for a sambar hunt here in Victoria, Aus. Either by stalking or with hounds.

John Ashcroft.
