i noticed that a message i posted took about a day to appear. im thinking its because this newsgroup is moderated. yes? is it moderated because anti-hunting posters would prove to be too disruptive? do posts always take a long time to appear or do 'approved' posters gain some sort of instant approval on their posts? kBill

The answers to your three questions are yes, yes, and yes.

Yes, the group is moderated. It is a mirror of the email listserv and should also be treated the same as any other email list. Yes, it is moderated to keep the disruptive individuals to a minimum. And, to help posters keep on topic which is discussing hunting, hunting related activities and equipment, and hunting related policies. Yes, there is the possibility of posters being able to be pre-approved.

It is surprising that over the weekend people think that both moderators should stay on line to approve msgs 24 hours a day. There are times when they can indeed do this but those times will be few and far between. It is not all that unusual for posters to have to wait 2 and sometimes 3 days to have their msgs approved in other moderated groups. Waiting 1 day is not all that much to ask.

People interested in basic posting policies should do a search of the group archives and use the word: ' administrivia ' in the subject line. Another interesting post on the subject that recently appeared is titled: ' Lets look at the question- ' Are my posts getting thru?' '

Yes, it is moderated. Normally the posts are usually approved daily, but only on weekdays (I generally don't look at posts on the weekends).

Fwiw, it is possible to add people to a list such that their posts just fly on in - sort of an 'auto-approve' list. Usually we reserve that for people that have been on the list for a while (ie. we know them and what kind of posts they write).
