The posts on this newsgroup are first sent to a moderator. The moderators generally don't work on the weekend - I know I went to the coast (Texas) and went fishing for redfish and trout.

For me too, it is an off/on thing with these monitored groups. Don't blame the monitors. I tend to be laconic and not do reference checking, since post may or may not show up. You may or may not see this reply

I have no trouble posting to this group, although I have NEVER been able to post to rec.guns. I'm not sure if it's a technical thing or the moderator just doesn't like my posts so I've given up.

Good Luck.........

Now that you mention it. I posted something using Google yesterday, early morning. I see some posts sent today have made it through, but mine still has not.

I've had others in the past that disappeared without being posted, to the point where I've almost given up on this group.

So, Chris, how was the fishing? And why are they called redfish? Good hunting! Michael

Not bad, but not great. We caught 1 keeper redfish (27' and a couple more we had to throw back. Also caught 3 black drum, a couple of sand trout, 1 small blacktip shark, and 50 +/- hardhead catfish (used for chum).

They are called redfish because they have an red/orangish tint to them. And man-o-man do they fight - harder than any other fish I've caught for their size.

Their real name is red drum. And, there is nothing like a 28 or 30 inch red on 10 or 12 pound test. Black Bass have never held much interest after I spent my first weekend drifting the upper Laguna for reds. Hard to beat them for eating either.

Yeah, fishing to me has always been an activity I did when I couldn't use a gun. But this was FUN - it was my 3rd time to saltwater fish. I think a large part of the trill is that you never quite know what it is on the other end of your line.
