Is there any state that allows hunting turkeys with dogs?

Why would you want to? That's the surest way I know to run turkeys off your land. They usually don't hang around under heavy predator pressure. They are more sensitive to predators than they are humans.

http://www.buckmasters.com/hunting_seasons/ has links to all the states, and each has its regulations. Check the ones along the Appalachians, esp. in the South.

Try calling it a Boykin spaniel.

The dog is used to bust up a flock in the fall and then is called back to the hunters side. Then they wait for the flock to regroup, the dogs are not used like they are for deer or rabbit hunting. It is easier for a dog to bust up a flock of turkeys than a person. When a person trys usually the turkeys all stay together and run or fly off. When a dog runs in on a flock they go in every direction then when they are regrouping the hunter sets up and trys his luck at bagging one. I have never tried this method but have seen it on a TV show.

Virginia allows turkey hunting with dogs in the Fall Season. One member of our Club hunts with a dog. I haven't hunted turkey with him in the Fall, but I understand that he goes through the woods at a good pace while the dog runs around trying to find a flock to flush. As soon as a flock is flushed the hunter goes to the spot, calls the dog and has him to lie down under a camo-cloth while the hunter tries to call a turkey back in. I understand that he and dog are very effective.

The use of dogs in the Spring season, when they might disturb roosting hens is illegal in Virginia.

I don't think that was a South Carolina turkey dog.If they caught you hunting turkeys here in upstate SC with dogs they take your vehicle they take your gun they fine you and put you in jail.

Not to challenge the second part of that, but I'm sure the Boykin spaniel's original home (and still HQ of the breed foundation) is in one of the Carolinas, and I'd've bet on South . . . Maybe they just don't get to use it for its original purpose there any more. Or I've got my Carolinas confused, of course ; they say memory is second to go . . .
