Hi, I heard that the game law in Ireland allows calibres limited to .270. I'm hunting with calibre 7,5 x 65 mm. Does anybody know, whether the limitation is right? If so, are there special permition for calibres higher than .270?

Comments are welcome!

Regards, Christian

Hi Christian,

This is correct .270 is the maximum allowed in or into Ireland. In 1972 the Irish Government confiscated all rifles above .22 and all pistols, this was supposed to be a temporary 3 month period due to the troubles in the North of Ireland.

They have decided to not return these weapons to their owners. There is no legislation in place to make this legal!

In 1992 or 1993 calibres up to .270 were allowed again.

regards,
