If anyone has recovered one from a deer I'd like to know about the expansion part myself. Penetration and knockdown are great. Bill Van Houten (USA Ret) 'No matter how hard you try, you can't throw a potato chip very far.'

If I could just get the damn things to SHOOT from my Model 7!! The Light Magnum loads in 7mm-08 shoot very very well through my gun, with either the SST or the Interlock SP bullet, but I cannot for the life of me come up with a handload that will group the SST. If this keeps up, I'll be shootin' 150-gn Partitioins again next year, which is not a bad thing, but still...
I thought I'd try to come up with a plinking load with the SST since it's cheap. So far I can't get under 2.5 MOA.
My rifle only seems to like heavy bullets or Light Mag's. Must need a kick in the ass to get it shooting right <g>!

I just bought a NIB CZ550 in 7x57. Haven't even put a scope on it yet. So far I've found that it's a real 'deep throat' and the rifling is a 1-7' twist. It's going to be interesting to see what kind of bullets it *likes*. Bill Van Houten (USA Ret) 'No matter how hard you try, you can't throw a potato chip very far.'

Sounds like a candidate for Berger 180 grain VLDs for paper and 175 grain partitions for game.

If you do a search on SST you should come up with a couple of hits talking about this. But in a nutshell, I used the 165 SST in my 30-06 last fall and was really pleased with it. Took 4 deer, one elk and one antelope with it and it worked great. Most of the shots went all the way through the animal and did a lot of damage on the inside putting them down pretty quickly. I was able to recover a bullet from the Buck Mule deer I took, which was beneath the hide of the opposite side I shot, and the bullet was mushroomed perfectly and held together really well. I am planning on using them this next fall for sure and can hardly

Used the 150 gr SST in my Mod 70 .308 for the first time last fall and just hammered a 230+ lb whitetail buck. No recovery, it was at archery range, 25 yds. I had been using 125 gr Ballistic Tips for years but tried the Hornady's and was really impressed with how much my rifle liked them, excellent groupings at all practical ranges. I won't be going back to the Noslers. Can hardly wait to try the 165's in my 30-06 and the 180's in the 300 Win Mag.
Don't hold back give them a go, I think you'll be impressed
