Guns are more effective than bows. Bows may be more silent than guns, but usually the deer will hear the string and jump away before the arrow hits. Guns provide a better means of taking down a deer. Plus you can shoot more than once if you miss. Of course, if you were a good hunter, you would have dropped the deer in one clean kill. Shooting more than once is not a wise idea as far safety is concerned. You don't have time to concider your backstop before you squeeze the trigger again.

***Obviously you have not taken the time to become a hunter. At long range, a gun is more effective, but within range limitations, I'll stack my bow hunting results against any rifle hunters. Actually, I've taken more and bigger game with my bow than I have with rifles.

***Again, your statement prooves that you do not know what you're talking about. I've had deer react to the shot, and they jump away, with an arrow through both lungs.

***No, skill, knowledge and striking where you aim take down a deer. A gun is simply a different tool, one that is effective at greater range and a different method of taking down a deer. Not better, just different, depending upon your needs.

***Learn where and when to shoot and you don't need more than one shot.

Depends on the gun, the bow, and the game.

Sometimes, but not usually, especially if your deer is relaxed and unworried.

Not during the bowhunting season.

Shooting at moving unwounded big game is something of a specialty best left to folks who spend a lot of time shooting at running coyotes.

Yep, whether at 20 yards with a bow or 200 with a rifle.

True enough. Good hunting, Thomas! Michael

Guns are good during the gun season, which in my state is 6 days and is shotgun only. Black Powder works best during BP season, which is 24 days long. Bow is the best choice for Bow season, which is 80 days long in my state.

I agree with almost everything else you say.

I don't agree with that statement at all. I hunt with both weapons. I've dropped more deer with a bow than rifle. As far as a deer jumping the string they don't jump they duck. Any archer that has hunted enoough knows this. All things being equal, I mean if the distance is say 20 yard or 30 yards either weapon will take the animal fast and humain.

'more effective'? dead is dead. practice with either and know it's and your limitations and they are both execellent choices. here in Illinois the gun season is 3 days in nov. and 4 days in Dec. bow is Oct 1 to Jan. so I get to hunt deer for 3 months, for this reason, I would say bow is better. more time in the field.

as far as effective. I watched a show once which demonstrated a 357 shot into a 5 gal. bucket of sand. the sand jumped ouit of the bucket a bit, a 3/4 inch entrance hole and the bullet was found in the sand. same distance an arrow was shot at the bucket, again the sand jumped a bit (impact shock). this time the arrow passed through the bucket. bot were then shot into the geletine block, the bullett left a hole that did open from the 3/4 inch entry th about 1.5 inches. the broadhead left a Y shape through the block, that when tilted (to demonstrate the internal organs) had a hole 2.75 inches in dia. so excluding knock down power the arrow was morw devastating.

Depends who has the bow I've shot over 62 whitetails with a bow. If anything you have to be a better hunter with a bow to get closer to the game. I also use a gun Its whatever you enjoy. They both will do the job

Take the time to learn to bowhunt, if you do, your hunting skills will improve. Is there more thrill in taking that whitetail at 25 yrds with your bow, or 200yrds with your rifle?...for me I will take the bow anytime...Everything I hunt is with a bow, mule deer, bear and hogs...

Using a bow is more about being up close and personal but a rifle is bout the distances.
