I'm toying with the idea of buying a secondhand Ruger Mini 14 for shooting goats & chamois ( I guess it would serve as a wallaby gun too). Does anyone have any views on this rifle and what are the limitations of a ..223 for game of this size? Interested to hear any thoughts.

How far away are you shooting from? The Mini 14's aren't very accurate.

Bill, I'd pass on the Mini unless the shooting is always close and the need for a quick second shot common (which sounds more like culling than hunting). Seems to me a Remington Seven or the small CZ in .223 wearing a compact scope would be more generally useful. Good hunting! Michael
