Thank you for taking the time to conduct this wonderfully documented investigation. I'm not certain I agree with Cabela's stance on this subject, but I can see where it would be an excellent tool for responsible breeders to showcase their kennels and to pre-screen potential buyers.

I think that if they're going to continue to promote these 'events', then they should put forth a little effort as well. It wouldn't hurt to set up a tent so that the pups wouldn't have to be without shade, nor would it hurt to have one of their employees, an avid gun dog person policing the grounds to insure that all attendees show proper care and concern for the dogs.

But by the same token, the breeders themselves should be aware enough of their surroundings to provide basic care for their pups. Due to where I live, I am forced, when I want to leave my lab outside, to tie him. But I NEVER leave, for any length of time without insuring that he has fresh water and shade.

From the sounds of things, there was one breeder that I would be comfortable dealing with, some of the others were marginal at best.

It's a tough call. I can understand where Cabela's is coming from, and done properly, this could be a wonderful 'event' to establish relationships between responsible breeders and prospective gun dog owners.

From your write up, I feel that it certainly could have been worse. So I guess you can put me down as having 'Firmly mixed emotions.'

Good job mike on a comprehensive report. Cabelas should stay OUT of the livestock business.
