I had a problem at Fleet Farm ( a store in Wisconsin ) last week. My 14 year old convinced me that his trusty Daisy needed to be replaced by a new pellet gun. No problem- those chipmunks need some population control. I left my wallet on my dresser. I brought the pellet gun and 500 pellets to the checkout girl and was told I was not able to buy the pellet gun because I had no identification. After a short and spirited discussion with her and the supervisor I finally said FINE. They had the pellet gun keyed into the computer and could not get it out. I told them I was going to move to another lane and they could keep the pellet gun! They both chimed in and explained that I was not going to be allowed to buy the pellets. I explained again that there were no laws ( as far as I was aware ) concerning the purchase of pellets. No go.

Went to Gander Mountain and purchased the gun and pellets ( for an additional $6 ). No questions or ID was needed.

Be aware.

Sounds like what they're trying to do is make sure druggies don't buy syringes and needles from them. Heck, here in Florida IIRC you can't get syringes and needles at all unless you have a doctor's prescription for them. It's all part of 'The War On Drugs' BS. If I were you I'd ask the store manager to produce the excerpt of state law that requires you to sign for the needles, and then ask him why he doesn't cary the right size.

Just another example of the Mills brothers looking out for your well being. This is just one of the reasons so many real shooters and hunters go to, (gasp!) GUN SHOPS and hunting stores. Screw the chains. Support a local shop that knows what they're doing, and have knowledgable people at the counter, not someone that really doesn't like hunting, fishing, guns, etc.and is there because the store manager needed to fill a space in the department. Walmart, Kmart, Fleetfarm, pretty much all the same.
