After receiving a call yesterday, I went down to the gun store to pick up my new Win. M70 Classic Sporter LT in .30-06 Sprg. Taking the gun out of the box, I found the bolt and inserted it into the action. Wanting to make sure everything was working right, I then dry-fired the weapon and proceeded to take the bolt out. It wouldn't come out! The button on the left rear of the action would not depress far enough to allow the bolt to slide out.

The woman behind the counter - who has forgotton more about firearms than I will ever know - tried to get it out. No luck. I hadn't paid for the weapon yet, so she said that she would have the in-house gunsmith look at it. If it was something severe, they would reorder the firearm.

Wouldn't you know it? Great looking firearm, very nice wood. Points and handles like a dream. And something goes wrong mechanically. Nuts! Well, I've waited eight years to get it, I guess i can wait a little longer. Disappointing, though.

Has anyone else had this problem with the newer Win. M70's? Any ideas as to what might be causing it?

The store called the next day. Winchester had left too much wood below the lever for the bolt removal. They removed the wood, and everything functions perfectly. Now if I can just find time to get the scope
