duck calling

I'm relatively new in the world of duck calling. I've got a handle on the feeding chuckle, and greeting calls, but my repetoire is small. There was a tape with the last call I purchased, but it didn't cover very much. Does anyone know where I can find a tape with REAL ducks calling, and a caller explaining what each sound is, and how to do it properly (preferably with a single reed)?

My suggestion would be to go to your nearest wildlife refuge and sit and listen to the real thing. After some time you will see when and why ducks call. You can try your nearest town pond too if that is all you have. Seeing the real thing in action beats the heck out of a tape every time. Remember, you get out what you invest.

Hello chas Tim is right the best way is to get out and listen to the real thing. I was fortunate enough to have be brought up within earshot of Great Bear swamp in NY and couldn't help but to hear them. But if that's not an realistic option, good videos can be found at www.herters.com. they specialize in waterfowling. One tip for the beginner: if you do hit a sour note, and you, will don't stop on that note continue to call and stop on a good one. Ducks unlimited has a great kit that includes a six in one call and a fantastic tape that walks you through the calls of Mallards, Woodducks, Widegons, Pintails, and Teal. I let my son-in law brow it and we're looking forward to a great duck season.
