what do you guys (or gals) think would be the impact to the resident doves in northern mexico as a result of the storm last week? may have to abandon a hunt.

Storms will have a greater effect on the whitewing population than mourning dove. I wouldn't give up the ship based on storms three weeks prior to the start of the season though. While some resident birds may have taken off south many birds will be replacing them from this side of the border.

Rain is usually a *good thing* for doves. It increases the vegitation, providing both cover and food. Add to this that doves are migratory (at least to some extent).

I most definately would NOT cancel.

i wasn't worried about the rain as much as the winds that accompanied the storm. i think they got up to around 70 mph, although they weren't very prolonged. thought that might push them out for a while.

thanks,

Let's do the math. Take a dove flying at 55 mph and add a 70 mph tailwind. Have fun with THAT lead.

Seriously, if the area has whitewing (if you're going to be along the TX border then you probably don't) they are more sensitive to storms and are probably going to be heading south. The mournings will stick around a lot longer. Monsoons are very common this time of year and a couple of bad storms aren't going to make much difference the further south you go.

Have fun.
