Anyone know of a 5+MP digital camera for which a zoom lens suitable for spotting scope use is available?

Alternatively, a binocular/digital camera/rangefinder with high resolution would be of interest.

I guess there's little chance of finding a unit that combines all four functions?

I noticed that Bushnell has come out with a 2MP binocular/digital camera on the one hand, and a binocular/rangefinder on the other. I haven't come across an instance of the first locally yet, and the latter is bulky and pricey for the quality of the optics.

It is called digiscoping, do a google search and there are many webpages on the subject. Many use a nikon coolpix 4 mp camera and a high end swarvoski or leica (upwards of $1800 for high deifiniton glass) spotting scope, with an adapter. The pictures can be impressive. If you really want a good pic you have to get a good tripod and head, around or above $1000 alone.

Thanks for the pointer. Got lots of relevant information to get me going. Happily the hits and related links I got seem well-focused. I ended up with just under 5MB of web pages going down about three levels.

One of the Japanese camera companies sells a system that combines a spotting scope with a video camra. This outfit is about $1,500. Not sure if this would work if you did not have access to 110 volt power. Look for the web site.
