While driving home from Vernon Texas Sunday Night I like just milliseconds in hitting a deer on HW287 just outside of Witicha Falls. What a scare! It was an antler-less, doe most likely, about headlight high. The Lord was with that little gal! She sprang in front of my Suburban and across both lanes in two bounds. Glad she was fast! Heart was bounding like I was in a blind LOL
Have any of you guys hit a deer with a vehicle? Also, what is the law in Texas regarding taking carcass home to help recoup damage by having some bruised up venison??

I've hit 8 deer and 2 moose in British Columbia over the years. The deer do a bit of damage on my truck, but the moose did a hell of a lot of damage. As for laws in TX, I have no idea. I've never taken a vihicle hit deer...no need to because I have enough at home.

It is illegal in Texas to keep a road killed deer. However, you can call the local game warden and if they get to it while still fresh, they will take it for a local orphanage or something.

I was riding in a car that hit one broadside. Doe busted the radiator and we had to abandon car. It was night before buck season in PA. Guys returned next day with radiator and doe was still alive. They got mixed response from police and game warden on what to do with deer. They finally put her out of her misery and kept her. On a DE deer hunt, guy I was meeting at diner was late because he hit a deer. We went back and got it, hung it and went on to hunt. Police pulled us over that night because we had a light out because of the deer damage to car. I had a legal shot deer in the trunk but we had no difficulties with police explaining that one deer was shot and another run over

Over the years, I have killed 6 deer with my vehicles, two deer have run into the side of my boat as I was trailering it down the highway! From what I understand, in Texas, you cannot keep a car killed deer. Here in Wisconsin, that's not the case and I have kept several of the deer. As long as the deer isn't excessively bashed up, the meat is fine. One of the deer that ran into the boat had no bruised meat at all, just a broken neck. But, if in Wisconsin, you are required to report the accident to the local Sheriff's Department.

year before last a deer jumped over the hood of my wife's car and as it landed, it kicked a dent in the door. also, back in 1972 i hit a deer while going about 60mph on a motorcycle. the deer was killed, the bike a mess, and even to this day, my right arm won't completely straighten out. when i looked over the remains of the motorcycle later i saw a good bit of deer hair stuck between the front tire and the rim. looked strange. i guess the tire was rolled back a bit and then pinched back and pulled the hair.

Don't want to get one that way! Might as well get a lease as fix a car! Be careful all!

A few years ago while on business, I was driving I-5 near Kelso WA. A group of mule deer suddenly appeared at a run, and I solidly tagged one at about 65 mph. It crushed the front passenger side of the car. We were unable to open the passenger doors and the roof over the passenger side was dented. It did an amazing amount of damage. Thankfully (?) it was a rental car.

into the side of my boat as you cannot keep a car several of the deer. As long deer that ran into the boat are required to report
At the time it happened it was not so humorous, but whenever talk around camp or elsewhere turns to best rifles, best calibers, etc. I take delight in the confusion of those present when I tell them I took my first deer with a 4.3 Vortec. I get all kinds of looks and then groans when I explain it was a Chevy van with a 4.3 litre Vortec V-6 engine driving to camp (at night) when approximately 1/2 mile from camp the deer thrust itself onto the left front fender near the headlight assembly.

I guess then that I've been using a tremendous amount of overkill then, I bagged the last one with a 6.6 liter Duramax Diesel. I suppose it would have been more sporting to use my wife's Achieva.
