When my oldest daughter Jaime was about 6 years old, Bambi was re-released to theaters for summer viewing. My wife agreed to take her to the movie, knowing the emotional and sensational aspects of it. My wife had seen it as a child and remembered the scenes that were most likely to cause trouble. The theater was packed for the Saturday matinee with basically only 2 age groups; 3-9 & 20-30. The movie progressed fine up to the point where Bambi's mom is about to be shot. My wife put her arm around my Jaime's shoulder to offer comfort for the inevitable eruption of sobbing at the sound of the hunter's gun. There was widespread sadness in the theater, with children crying and wailing...but not Jaime. She didn't register any sign of remorse over the death of Bambi's mom! Several moments passed before she finally turned to my wife and said in a rather loud and disgusted voice, 'Mom, I can't believe someone just shot a doe out of season.' My wife said that there were several parents in surrounding seats slid onto the floor laughing out loud.
All I could say was 'That's my daughter!'
