If you read the article closely, you will see that this is not true. Mayor Daley is requiring Chicago Police Department employees to turn in some types of personally owned firearms. This does not apply to regular residents.

It is still a big concern that Daley would impose this on his police department, but it is a far cry from all being prohibited from owning a rifle.

I went to the web site and found this:

'Chicago Police Superintendent Terry Hillard used his administrative authority to expand the list of guns that law-abiding Chicago residents are prohibited from owning to include all firearms having a bore of .50 caliber or more.

As a result of Hillard's action, most, if not all of the rifles used to take deer in the state would fall into the banned category'

First of all how can a police superintendent create a new law? Secondly the second paragraph is not well explained. How does a .50 cal ban effect most or all of rifles used to take deer. The only .50 ban that should effect deer hunters is if it included black powder rifles....that would be unusual. Were there other bans on sporting rifles ? None of this makes sense and it bothers me that a local rifle association could be so vague. This web site might allow anti's to view the information as propaganda based. I think that a responsible state organization should be concise in their statements and address each issue in an academic and thoughtful manner. While I would like to know more about these issues, I want to feel I have the whole story so I can trust the information. This site needs work.

Deer can only be hunted in Illinois with black powder rifles or shot gun slugs. There is also a hand gun season in January, but limited counties.

I predict this will go up for a constitutional challenge, and get defeated. I hope.
