Just last night on TV news they said the ban on shipping wild game products south has been lifted. How long that will take to get to the border guards might be a different story. Bill Van Houten (USA Ret)

I've long been a user of rifle bipods (Harris tilting long legs) for hunting in the Rockies. For the past couple of years, I've also been carrying a lightweight tripod with Q-D bases for my camera(s) and spotting scope. I've chosen tripods that can also be rigged to do double duty as walking sticks (very handy on steep slopes and creek crossings).
I'm frustrated by the extra bulk and weight of carrying two such items that basically fullfill the same functions, but haven't been able to find any product that combines all of these functions. I've also found that the tripods are a bit fragile for walking stick service.
It wouldn't be too hard to adapt a tripod to act as a monopod rest for a rifle, but I need something more stable for steep uphill shots at sheep and goat in rough mountain terrain. I'm also doubtful of a light tripod's ability to survive recoil without some major buffering.
Anyone know of a product that might fit the bill or that could be made to work without a machine shop?

You could use your backpack as a rest. You just lay it down on a rock with your rifle on top of it.
There is a company that sells a rest that screws into a camera/ spotting scope tripod. It sells for $20-$30. I will find out the name of it for you today.
There is a professional hunter who posts on 24hourcampfire.com who says that the snipepod is the best bipod you can find. It has 2 aluminum tubs that use elastic rope to break it down so you can keep it on your belt. It takes just a few moments to straighten out the legs and attach it to your rifle and you are ready to use it.

Have you looked at what http://www.stoneypoint.com/ has to offer? Take a look at their Hike 'N Hunt Bipod Monopod combo.
