Hey,, I just picked up a Johnny Stewert game call, with a few different tapes for coyote. I was wondering if people just let the tape play on and on, or do they stop it often? Leaving it on all the time seems like a bit much. I am in Maine, and would like as much information about using this call as possible. TIA, Jim

My experience has been this.
I go out at about 3 in the morning and use the locate call. I go to about 10 different places where landowners tell me they hear them the most. (With their permission, of course). I use the locate call for about 5 or 10 minutes, pretty loud, and see if they howl back. When they howl back I mark which place had the loudest howls and then go back at about 30 minutes before sunrise.
Now, like any other mammal, they get hungry in the morning. So when the sun comes up I'm all ready set up and I know they are in the area. I use the coyote in distress call (just because it works best for me) and turn it up pretty loud and leave it on. They usually come running in about 15 minutes or so.
Hope this helps. Good luck hunting.
By the way, what state are you in? Maybe we can get together some time.
Steve
